Frictional Games has released a few pieces of concept art as
well as a teaser trailer of its upcoming survival horror game,
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs. Scheduled for release
this Fall, the game takes place in 1899 when affluent
"industrialist Oswald Mandus returns home from a disastrous
expedition to Mexico, which ended in tragedy. Wracked by fever,
haunted by dreams of a dark machine, he recovers consciousness in
his own bed, with no idea of how much time has passed since his
last memory."
Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is a sequel to the brilliant
psychological first-person horror title Amnesia: The
Dark Descent; if you are a fan of the genre and have
not tried it out yet, you have missed out on something truly
excellent. That game was the first in several years to REALLY scare
me - there are no weapons; it's all about evasion, stealth and
survival. It's currently available for around $19
via Steam. However, bear in mind that The Dark Descent was
developed solely by Frictional Games, whereas the upcoming game is
being made by indie studio thechineseroom (of Dear Esther fame), so it
will be interesting to see if they can retain that same atmosphere
while bringing something new to the table.
