2K Games and Yager just released a demo via Steam for their upcoming first-person
military shooter Spec Ops: The Line, and we have
uploaded a video playthrough of the same so that you can get a look
at the game in action if you are not sure what to make of it.
According to the developers, the demo was specially made consisting
of a mixture of different sections from the full version, to give
players a look at what the title has to offer. The demo starts off
in Dubai with you in a helicopter firing its minigun targeting
enemy choppers, when a sandstorm hits and s@#% hits the fan. You
assume the role of Martin Walker - Captain of a Delta Force team -
attempting to locate and rescue lost decorated Colonel John
Konrad.
You can access some basic squad tactics in the game, such as
asking team members to stun targets or take them out. The player
can carry two weapons (similar to the Halo system), and some of the
weapons we saw were the default M4A1 assault rifle, the M9 handgun,
Ak-47, M249 SAW, tactical sniper rifle, Micro 9mm, and the UMP
submachine gun. You can also attach silencers to some of these
weapons if you want to try and go stealthy, though that doesn't
last long. There are some beautiful backdrops which you can pause
and admire, but the game looks and plays like a straight-forward
shooter (with nice visuals); voice-acting was standard, and while
the gameplay was fun there was nothing innovative/ground-breaking
as far as the demo was concerned.
Welcome to Dubai, gentlemen.

The game plays and controls fine using a mouse + keyboard. Frame
rates were consistent at max settings on the machine we tested - an
Intel E8400@3Ghz with 4 GB Ram on a Windows 7 64-bit OS. The
graphic card was an Nvidia GTX 560Ti with the old 295.73 drivers,
so you can be sure it will run ok on a mid-to-high end rig. (Edit:
profile settings ingame were on vibrant, since we wanted all the
shiny bloomy graphics). Spec Ops: The Line will be released for the
PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on 26 June in North America and 29 June across
Europe.
