I recently procured the PC version of Resident Evil
Operation Raccoon City and have decided to upload the
first 10 minutes of Mission 1 so that those who haven't tried it
out yet can evaluate the video/gameplay and decide if it's worth
$44.99 (after the 10% discount from Steam). So far the gameplay, story and visuals
have been a tad underwhelming with the biggest disappointment being
that this is a straight-forward button-mashing third-person
shooter, with a few QTE's thrown in. Although it seems to have sold
fairly well on consoles, PC users expecting anything along the
lines of Resident Evil 1-4 should manage their expectations. The
classic survival horror tension just isn't there; instead, it's an
all-out action fest.
For my first playthrough, I decided to pick Karena 'Lupo'
Lesproux - a former French Special Ops character who specialises in
weaponry and focuses on assault. The other members on the team you
can choose from are Spectre (Surveillance), Vector (Recon), Bertha
(Medic), Four Eyes (Field Scientist) and Beltway (Demolition). You
can acquire XP ingame, which you can then use to purchase various
skills - passive like body armour and faster reloads or short-term
active abilities like firing incendiary rounds, invulnerability and
infinite ammo - as well as new primary and secondary weapons at the
end of the mission.

Although I typically play a lot of third-person shooters with a
360 controller since I find some games just play better with it, in
this case the gamepad was insufficient; the mouse just handled way
better so I chose to stick with it. For those interested in the
technical side of things, this was recorded using Fraps on an Intel
E8400@3Ghz with 4 GB Ram on a
Windows 7 64-bit OS. The graphic card is an Nvidia GTX 560Ti with
the 295.73 driver, since my card starts artifacting with the latest
one (296.10).
